Training objectives:
- Train senior professionals with a high capacity to design, analyse and respond to the many challenges facing health systems in African countries;
- Train competent higher-education lecturers able to deliver training at all levels (basic, specialised and doctoral) in public health;
- Train senior researchers able to conduct high-level research to provide health systems with guidance for appropriate decision-making.

Teaching organisation
The programme lasts six semesters, including one common-core semester. The second semester focuses on specialisation. The remaining four semesters are devoted to research work and thesis preparation. This is a thesis by articles. Completion requires validation of coursework, publication of at least two peer-reviewed articles in the specialisation field, and writing and defending a thesis. Each doctoral student is supervised by a thesis director and may have a co-director. The work is overseen by a thesis committee established by the Doctoral School of the University of Abomey-Calavi.
Admission requirements
- Hold a Master's degree (LMD) in public health, epidemiology, health promotion, nutrition and health, or environmental sciences; or a DEA in public health and epidemiology under the former system;
- Have an average of at least 14/20 in the Master's or DEA.

- List of Master's course units for candidates who obtained their Master's at another university, or modules under the former system;
- Transcripts for all semesters;

- Three recommendation letters from supervisors and/or former professors;
- A motivation letter from the candidate;
- Four identity photos less than 3 months old;
- A 4 to 5-page summary of the candidate's thesis project;
